Designing With Light

Warm pendants, layered light and soft shadow: how lighting turns Padi House at Suria KLCC into a room you want to stay in.

Light sets the mood first

Guests feel the lighting of a restaurant before they notice the furniture or the menu. At Padi House, Suria KLCC, we wanted the room to feel like an evening meal at home, even at noon inside a busy mall.

Warm, low and layered

Instead of one bright ceiling grid, we layered the light: warm pendants over the tables, softer light along the walls, and accents on the terracotta and planting. Each layer has a job, and together they let the room change from lunch to dinner.

Shadow belongs too

A space lit evenly from every side has no depth. We leave room for shade, because contrast is what makes texture visible and gives each table its own small pool of light.

Light that is easy to run

Every fitting is chosen to be easy to clean, easy to replace and simple for staff to switch. Good lighting has to work on a busy Saturday night, not only on photo day.
