The Materials That Define a Space
Terracotta, timber and planting: how material choices gave Padi House at Suria KLCC the warmth of a Malaysian home.
‘We design with intention, creativity, and precision.’ Wezian Ho, founder.
Start with a feeling
For Padi House at Suria KLCC, the brief was a Malaysian home inside one of the country’s busiest malls. Before choosing a single finish, we agreed on the feeling: warm, familiar and generous, the opposite of a polished mall unit.
Terracotta, brought inside
Terracotta tiles are usually found on verandahs and garden paths. Used indoors on walls and arches, they soften the space, absorb light and give the restaurant an earthy colour that reads from across the concourse.
Timber and planting
Timber screens, rattan details and generous planting break a large floor into smaller, more intimate dining pockets. Each material has a job: to warm the room, to divide it, or to bring a little of the outdoors in.
Materials that last
In a busy F&B space every surface is touched, cleaned and knocked hundreds of times a day. We choose finishes that age well, so the restaurant looks better after a year of service, not worse.
